Over 50?

Post by merchant seaman » April 1, 2011, 4:51 pm

Minister of the Interior has proposed a new law to prohibit Thai's from getting married to Farlangs over 50. Is this good or bad? I know a few who wish this was in force earlier

I also read for those that marry before 50 are notified that when they turn 50 all possessions in Thailand are immediately handed over to the Thai partner and the divorce papers are filed automatically. Your visa is revoked and you will be sent packing.

Yes, taking that idea on board Statto here is a piece from the BBC.
10 stories that could be April Fools pranks but aren't
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-12932108

I especially liked number 3...
3. A 50-strong gang of chickens that terrorised residents in Southport has been evicted by Lancashire Police. The flock, which had been abandoned by their former owner, prowled the streets in a pack and would begin crowing at 0400 BST each morning.

tough for over 50's to marry thai women

Post by maaka » April 3, 2011, 3:21 pm

someone splashed a blurb here about Cambodia, and a new law to stop farang over 50yrs old marrying Cambodia women, well it seems the Thai Government and the Laotian Government are considering the same Bills before the House, and that the new law re Thailand may come into force on May 1st..and there I was trying to foster a relationship leading to marriage, not because I wanted a girl half my age, or to skip paying the 800,000 baht for visa requirements, but just because I have never been married before, love asian women and the Thai culture and country..seems if you get married overseas to a thai women the government may not recognise it if you are over 50yrs old mister...there will be a panic rush on now by all involved...I knew I was destined to be a ruddy monk

=D> Not too far fetched. Look at what took effect in Cambodia on 1 March 2011.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/03/16/3166019.

"Cambodia sets age limit for foreign husbands

Male foreigners over the age of 50 have been outlawed from marrying Cambodian women in the country under new rules designed to crack down on sham marriages and human trafficking, the government said.

Foreigners who earn less than $2,550USD per month are also barred from wedding local women, foreign ministry spokesman Koy Kuong said, but the restrictions do not apply to weddings taking place overseas."

USAV....
Already discussed..

Just rather unnecessary thing for a Government to get involved in I would think sissor-mouth. Plenty of other issues queuing up without a resolution in Thailand & Cambodia I would think...
