Ice Skating Rink in the pipeline

Post by lee » July 18, 2012, 2:49 pm

According to the following article http://udonechamber.com/home/journal-ch ... -3400.html There is an Ice Skating rink under construction at Central Plaza. Also under construction is a children's area called 'Fun Planet' and various other activities geared towards the younger generation.

If there are any skating experts out there, Central are looking for teachers:

It'll be a bloodbath. They better issue helmets.

As if a Thai would wear a helmet.

The project is financed by VMVK Services (Bangkok)....they run a variety of companies in the capital and various provinces. The project will cost 40 million Baht. It's going to be on the fifth floor of the comples, about 1600-1700 square meters (total size, not all skating area) and will include a variety of food and game concessions. The company believes that the 200 baht fee that people in Bangkok pay for skating is a reasonable fee for the people in Udon.
The company expects 8000-10000 customers per month, with 80% Thai and 20% foreigners, includes many from neighboring Laos and Vietnam, predicated on the opening up of the Asean Economic Community (AEC) (in 2015).
The grand opening is slated for fourth quarter of this year.

An ice-skating rink for Udon?! My, how times have changed

This is good news for Canadians and Scandinavians.

I grew up on a lake, frozen every winter, and played hockey for two weeks straight every Christmas break. And every weekend from November to March. I'm not canadian or scandinavian (still trying to figure out that comment).

I would'nt get too excited guys, looking at the photo it looks like what they put in the City of London near where I worked. Tiny little rink ,nothing like a proper ice skating rink ,or a lake if you were lucky enough. Its a start I supose..

They might be looking for a few paramedics and blood donors as well.

I was living in Albania when the 1st casino opened, I think place might be even more dangerous

No, but there will be plenty of ON ICE seating I am sure :yikes: :crying: #-o

More to the point ....... is there a good view of the rink from the bar? [-o<
Many rinks in the UK failed miserably to provide enough spectator viewing areas in the bar for matches.

Has anyone checked it out yet??

Prices, selection of available rentals (skates), shop to purchase equipment??

Do they allow parents to enter the rink with shoes/slippers to teach their children to skate??

Been 30 years since I've been on the ice, hope it's like riding a bike (LOL).
