Best Sushi In Udon Is Where?

Anyone got a great sushi spot they can recommend?

I've been to Oishi and Shabushi about 10 times each, and they're "OK".

Anywhere else worth checking out?

I always thought Fuji's reputation was second to none but after the gold digging experience on the 'thai bad habits' thread, am not so sure :shock: Still worth a go, just sit with your back to the cashiers desk =D>

Our favorite Japanese food joint is Mr. Sushi on Soi Chomchuen. The menu is varied and has something for everyone in my family. I won't claim that they have the best sushi, because what I may consider to be the best may not be up to your standard.

Also, the 4th floor of Central has plenty of restaurants that offer sushi.

Fuji by far. If you are a semi-connoisseur of sushi, you will appreciate the difference. Also, they will give you better ala carte cuts than what you would get in a set. The flesh is almost always the exact correct temperature (same temp as the human mouth), and the marble of the salmon cuts is almost always perfect. As you may know, there are huge differences in preparation techniques between Fuji and Oishi. I believe Fuji correctly wraps the frozen fish in a steamed towel to bring it to temperature. The flesh is always soft and tender. I believe Oishi uses some other inferior rapid thaw method which results in the flesh being noticeably "rough" and the flavor a bit stale.

Is there any other recent Japanese Restaurant besides Fuji or Oshi that serves close to authentic Japanese food? Fuji is good but I think it is slightly overrated in my opinion as it appears that there is no other competitors around. My 2 cents~

Will check out Mr Sushi.. or any new Japanese restaurant?

For my two cents having eaten Sushi in Japan, and seen the cleanliness and almost slavish attention to being clean, no-where in Thailand would even come close in my book and if I am eating what is basically uncooked food then I wouldn't trust a Thai kitchen to be clean. sorry but there it is.

Well the sushis in Fuji and Oishi Shabushi are worth checking out, though I'm not too sure of what's really the best. Hmm, I might try Mr. Sushi this weekend. Thanks for the recommendation! :)

Our friends were sat with us at Chef's Table and we talked Sushi as we'd tired of the same old spots and one of them recommended Otaki which is supposed to be in Central.

I asked after that if like Fuji, it had a bunch of items on the menu with mayonnaise added (it's unfortunately in a LOT of Fuji's food, YUCK!!!!) and they said No.

Will be there trying it tomorrow or next day / night.

Oshin Japanese on Srichomchun Road has the best sushi etc IMO, either a full buffet or order from the very extensive menu.

The Buffet is actually small meals , and table service with 35 /40 dishes to choose from. Chicken teriyaki is one of my favourite dishes in the buffet.

500++

Walks all over Fuji and Oishi places by a country mile.
