An amazing man,one of the truly great statesmen of our times, and a rarity amongst politicians in that he was a decent human being. RIP
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

First sensible Mandela comment I have read.

He was portrayed to be such a saint, well I suppose one mans freedoms fighter is another mans terrorist.

I guess that puts him up there in the Pantheon with other freedom fighters such as George Washington, William Wallace, Cochise and Emiliano Zapata.

=D> =D> =D>

FFS, look at the history of South Africa under the evil regime of Apartheid. Without people like Mandela, the country would probably still be there.

NELSON MANDELLA DEAD

Mandela admitted that he was a flawed individual, but he was a great man. After 27 years in prison, he was not vindictive, but a very understanding and compassionate individual. Without him, South Africa might still be in the dark ages. FW DeKlerk pointed out the importance of Mandela:
FW de Klerk: world has lost a great unifier with Nelson Mandela's death
South African president who freed Nelson Mandela, shared Nobel prize with him and joined him in first post-apartheid government, says 'he lived reconciliation and was never bitter'

FW de Klerk, the South African president under whom Nelson Mandela was released from prison, has said his country and the world have lost "a great unifier".

De Klerk shared the Nobel peace prize with Mandela in 1993 for brokering the end of apartheid and, when the ANC leader was elected president in the first multiracial election, entered into a government of national unity as his deputy.

De Klerk, 77, said in remarks to the BBC: "It's a very sad moment for the whole of South Africa and I'm sure millions of people around the world.

"I fully associate myself with the dignified and feeling statement President Zuma made. I became good friends with the late Nelson Mandela.

"We had our moments of tension … but after our retirement and at times during his presidency we became very close. He was a remarkable man – his biggest legacy will be emphasis on reconciliation, a remarkable lack of bitterness," De Klerk said.

"He lived reconciliation. He was a great unifier."

On CNN, De Klerk said: "There was an immediate, I would say, a spark between the two of us, and notwithstanding the many spats we had, I respected him and I always liked him as a person. He was a magnanimous person. He was a compassionate person.

"He was taller than I expected – he was ramrod straight. He looked one in the eye very directly, he was a good listener and I could see very easily that he had an analytical approach to discussions, which I liked very much. I was really very impressed with him at that first meeting."

De Klerk first met Mandela on 13 December 1989 when the ANC leader was still in prison – "we both reached the conclusion that we would be able to do business with one another" – and again two days prior to Mandela's release on 11 February 1990.

"It was an honour for me to have been able to work with Mr Mandela in the process that led to the adoption of the interim constitution and our first democratic elections in April 1994," De Klerk said.

"Although we were political opponents, and although our relationship was often stormy, we were always able to come together at critical moments to resolve the many crises that arose during the negotiation process."

"South Africa has lost one of its founding fathers and one of its greatest sons.

"I believe that his example will live on and that it will continue to inspire all South Africans to achieve his vision of non-racialism, justice, human dignity, and equality for all.

"Tata, we shall miss you, but know that your spirit and example will always be there to guide us to the vision of a better and more just South Africa."

Sir Alex Ferguson on Nelson Mandela.....who he met on 3 occasions.

"Its a privilege for us to be here to celebrate his birthday"
"The impact he has made here in South Africa is huge"
""The thing that strikes me most is that there is no bitterness about him, despite what he endured and suffered."
"You have to be special to put that to one side,to try and get on with life and influence this country in a massive way."

You know what happens when you speak out against the views of SAF [-X :D

Indeed very sad his passing and as already stated each have their own feelings on the subject . RIP Mr Mandela .

To add the blanket coverage being afforded to this is now very tedious showing the same footage and rolling out any one who has ever met the man ... the BBC by far the worst culprit .. fortunately i have through UM training learned the art of simply not clicking on anything i dont want to see or read .. now utilizing this method with my TV remote ..

I am not convinced either by all the BBC spin, a corporation run by faggots and lefties, Mandella cleverly packaged as a kindly old man.
Nelson Mandela was the head of UmKhonto we Sizwe, (MK), the terrorist wing of the ANC and South African Communist Party. At his trial, he had pleaded guilty to 156 acts of public violence including mobilising terrorist bombing campaigns, which planted bombs in public places, including the Johannesburg railway station. Many innocent people, including women and children, were killed by Nelson Mandela’s MK terrorists.

If I were a black African growing up through the apartheid years in South Africa I would have fought like f--k also for my homeland and country. There are some unbelievable redneck comments here, each to their own as they say.

and denies none of it, quite frankly proud of it. mendala killed more blacks than the oppressive SA apartheid policies every did. As corrupt as the best of them and stole millions when becoming president. Another Nobel Peace prize embarrassment.

I would be very interested to see a reliable source to that information.

I am sorry LA I see nothing in that rant against Mandella that comes even close to being a fact about him being - in your words -
As corrupt as the best of them and stole millions when becoming president.
You are getting as bad as your buddy if you actually believe 99% of a racist rant like that...but even in that not 1 little fact about Mandella being corrupt & stealing millions..

Infact the truth is probably nearer this journalistic piece...
But Mandela also showed a laudable aversion to greed. He cut his presidential salary when he came to power in 1994, and handed over a further third of it as a regular donation to a children's fund. His homes in Johannesburg and his ancestral village of Qunu are grand by local standards but hardly palatial.

well he died a millionaire, probably left over from peace prize money, he split with the other guy, so he invested well. 1 presidency must of paid good.

the ANC must of been a humanitarian organization.

This tells me all I need to know, taken from LA's linked source:
Since 1994 with the take-over of the Christian ruled South Africa by the communist-terrorist-atheist-murderous African National Congress (please do not be deceived by the “national” in African National Congress, there is nothing national about this organization) the country became a cesspool of murder, torture, rape and corruption, every evil written in the handbook of communism-bolshevism.

http://www.southafricaproject.info/
You may note the southafricaproject is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ Christian.

And who are they:
The Church of Jesus Christ–Christian is an American white supremacist church, which was founded in 1946 by Ku Klux Klan organizer Wesley A. Swift. Swift was the son of a Methodist Episcopal Church, South minister and is considered a significant figure in the early years of the Christian Identity movement in the United States.

I guess he missed the bit where you asked for a "reliable" source, Bob.
