I got it over two years ago Fred and I cant remember if it was free, if not it was a minimal fee - via a telephone landline socket

I forgot to say Fred their call centre number is 1530, they speak English. Alternatively their office is on the ground floor of the 'old' Big C but you would need an interpreter if you can't speak Thai as the staff there don't speak too much English.

When the net goes slow I use my mobile as a modem, most smart phones have this facility...its pretty fast on my DTAC monthly package... might be better packages out there by now, just not had time to look around recently..

AIS 4.5 GB, 3G through the phone linked to computer via hotspot 399 baht per month, I would be lucky to use 2GB per month, are you really paying 960 for 5GB a month, wow they saw you coming.

Fred.......IMO, what works for one person (TOT, CAT, 3BB, DTAC, etc) doesn't necessarily work for another. One person might be in range of a DTAC tower, but another isn't.
My suggestions: Since you have TOT already, try going to the TOT main office and walk up to the second floor. There are several engineers that work there in an open office environment. Try talking to one of them and explaining your problem (most speak good English). You'll obviously have to provide more details than what you've provided in your post above.

If in fact you are on TOT wireless, it's possible the office can improve your coverage. It's also possible that they can upgrade your service if you haven't tried doing that in the past few years.

If TOT can't help you, try talking to the people who live nearby. Even Thais in the boonies depend on internet these days. Find out what works for them.......if everyone in the area is using AIS or DTAC or whatever, then it'd probably be a good idea to switch to the same carrier.

If you live nearby a village school (say, within a km), then TOT should be able to provide good internet. It seems most schools have internet these days.....and seems like most all have TOT network boxes at or near the school.

That True 3G air card that doesn't work for one person may work very well for another.......either because the person with the card doesn't have his computer configured correctly or because there's not a True tower nearby.

When it comes to internet and mobile phone service in Thailand, what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. Good luck.

Good info Parrot
My village only gets AIS mobile phone which still is not a good reception 20ks out of Udon
Everyone that has internet here relies on TOT,( the clinic and school)
Again not that relieable
Power goes off at any of the connecting towers or the village itself no internetI
If lose internet after 11am Saturday more than likely won't be back till at the earliest Monday 9-10am
But it is getting better and faster
