Re: Looking for property to rent
I looked at this place before and it was right next to a school . Would have been far too noisy for me. Never heard of an apartment charging a booking fee before.

The booking fee is simply that and is deducted from your first months rent,it is only non returnable if you fail to take up the room you book.dezzer wrote:1,000 Bt booking fee she must be having a laugh, booking fee my ares ,just another of these ways of taking the Falang for a few bobhaggis087 wrote:I contacted lady Manager yesterday by email. She has quoted me 7,900 tbh per month (reduced by 400tbh per month if book 3 months or more).Wants me to pay the 7,900 + a further 7,900 deposit up front. She has also asked for a non returnable 1,000tbh 'Booking Fee' which I not come across before.
I am uncomfortable about forwarding any money by bank transfer so will likely wait until I arrive next week and call into a few places personally.
I must say though that looks quite nice from their official site
A booking fee is the sealing of a contract that the owner will make available the property at the agreed rate and at the time required and that you will take up the property.
The extra month (deposit) is charged on most furnished accomodation and is simply a security deposit in case of damage by the tenant.
Dowdy, the owner/manager is one of the most caring and honest landlords you could hope to do business with.

Would have been more informative to state that in the email reply?

No where in the email does it say that the 1000bt booking fee is non refundable,so maybe the misunderstanding is in your interpretation.mortiboy wrote:"The booking fee is simply that and is deducted from your first months rent,it is only non returnable if you fail to take up the room you book."

Re: Looking for property to rent

All
Have been busy with work etc and only just been able to view these posts and comment
It seems that I owe the owner of this establishment an apology which, in the interest of fairness, I offer unreservedly.
I am somewhat guilty is 'assuming' the booking fee was non returnable but to be fair this was not fully explained in the initial email.
As Dom mentions, it was also not stated either way so was all a misunderstanding on my part and am happy to put the record straight.
I am always at pains to post positive comments, if justified, because I understand that a business reputation is hard to earn and easy to lose if someone does not follow up with correcting previous postings
I wish the owner success and once again apologise for any distress caused.
