Bread Maker , worth it or not ?

Post by SJP17 » September 11, 2015, 1:38 pm

I was considering buying an electric bread maker instead of buying bread locally

Do you think its a worthwhile investment considering most of the time it will only be me eating it with breakfast

Really don't need a bread machine to make bread. If you know how to make bread, and homemade fresh is better than anyone else.........IF you know how to make bread / rolls / naan. All freeze with no problem.

If just you for brekkie, may need a toaster over, for thick slices, as thin for toaster...............well, boring.

Used to have one which was supposed to be good quality I bought in Holland.
After about a year it broke with the stirring paddle siezing up.
Could not get it fixed so made the bread in the oven which was much better.
I found you had to get the amount of water you added to the bread machine exactly right to make good bread.
Would never buy another one.

If you really want one, I have one purchased for 3k baht (2999, I think), and can be yours for 1/2 price. The only thing I use it for, and rare, is mixing dough that really need a paddle, or high sugar / sticky ingredients, then take out and bake in oven.

depends, how much bread you consume a week, 1 loaf not really, 7 loaves then maybe, mac's right oven will be a lot more versatile, you can't make a lasagna , or heat up a puff pastry sausage roll, roast spuds, jacket spuds in a bread maker

I have over the years both here and in Blighty, looked at bread makers, not having a family of 6 or more it was not worth the problems of sourcing the ingredients/keeping everything just right, buying the utensils needs for such a finickity process just to eat a fresh loaf.
Buy the bloody thing and enjoy. We have to my knowledge two bakers here Dean and Steve, both make good bread and it is tasty too, why go to all that effort, unless of course you have a family of 6 or more .

Actually, if a good bread machine, it's quite nice, and very convenient. Sourcing ingredients was never a problem in US or here. In US, I was making a loaf or two every week. They really are too easy to operate, and can spice or sweeten the bread up to you taste.

Some garlic and oregano, and you got garlic bread, pop in toaster with a bit of butter.....excellent. Sweetening and tweaking to your taste is only limited to your imagination.

I've never tried to make lasagna in a bread machine but apparently someone has.

man I came in this thread figuring with 7 posts there'd be a pic of some breadmaker-made bread or even a bread maker LOL.

anyhow, what are some good models of breadmaker findable here in Udon? we have 2 others ovens and even a food biz but I'm just talking home, etc. 12345 might take you up on your offer of a sale, something with a plug sitting on the kitchen counter deffo the move on the rare "days off".

Bread Maker , worth it or not ?

I have a Welbilt bread machine that I bought in the '90's and use it a couple of times a week. I love it. I just pour in the ingredients and push the button. In about 3 hours I have perfectly baked bread. Nice crust on top and soft on the sides. If you prefer crustier bread, such as a baton, you can program the machine to stop at the bake cycle and then remove the dough and put it in your oven. If I had to do all of this by hand I would probably only make bread a few times a year.

My machine came with a recipe book with about 25 recipes. I can make things that I never thought about, such as pretzels, bagels, doughnuts, etc . Of course, you must take the dough out of the machine to make these.

It has certainly paid for itself. I make a lot of rye and pumpernickel bread, as well as sourdough. Those can be a little pricey at the shop. I've played around with the recipes until I've gotten them tailored just the way I like them. Nothing like fresh hot bread, lightly toasted with butter on it.

I’m sure things have changed in the last 4 or 5 years in quality of bread makers since the last post.
Missus is looking to explore buying a bread maker machine.
Any members have one to recommend or not recommend?

Ive been making my own bread for long time now.No bread machine. Do by hand .
Of course you need an oven .I bought one from Chilindo 2,900 I think.
Can use for all sorts of cooking and baking!
I never make white bread. Always half BREAD flour and Wholemeal flour.
Bleached all purpose white flour never works good!and bad for you!
Longest part is Kneading the dough 10 minutes No hardship!
Yeast can buy from Macro.(if in stock after Deans been there!) :D
Chinese shop down a bit opposite Marco has wholemeal flour .

A friend of mine got me started using a bread machine. He has been making his own bread for ten years with a bread machine. I wasn't sure and really didn't want to spend a lot of money so I bought a cheap one off Lazada. It is a Verasu Homemate. It does a great job. Dump the ingredients in the pan and hit start. Three hours later you have a great loaf of bread. Mine is a small one. It makes either a 500 gram or 750 gram loaf. I make bread maybe twice a week. I love the cinnamon raisin bread. So simple to make. The smell of baking bread is delightful. You get more than three 750 gram loaves from a 30 baht a kilo bag of all purpose flour. Mine came with recipes in grams so I bought an electronic kitchen scale.

Do what Galt says....!!

You will never regret buying the machine.

If you inbox me your email address I will send you recipes for the machine.

And where to buy the ingredients on the cheap.
If it looks good..and smells good..go for it..
