Australian Arrested

Bandung and Udon police announced the arrest of a 71 year old Australian on charges of violating immigration requirements. The arrest came after Australian and Bangkok police requested assistance in locating the man who is accused of a child pornography case in Australia.

The man was staying at a apartment in front of the Bandung Provincial Electricity Office. He was allegedly staying in the Kingdom in violation of immigration requirements. Bandung police will continue investigating the case before handing the individual over to police in Bangkok on other charges.

While I am sure Parrot's translation is spot on, the second sentence of the first para is, aiui, not correct.

The third sentence in the 2nd para is certainly incorrect.

Given the standard of reporting in the locals papers, coupled with translation issues, it would perhaps be better if people held off on the wildly speculative comments until more is known.

You say the translation is spot on then you say the translation is incorrect, What is your version of the translation.
Bandung is not a big town with not a lot of expats.
Photos of the man have been posted so I am sure lots of people know him & even been drinking with him.
Come on residents of Bandung state what you know or suspect instead of relying on newspaper reports which Jackspratt seems to think are speculative & incorrect.

A recap of immigration arrests says he was sentenced to 7 years for underage sex (16), but apparently left the country and entered Thailand through Nongkai. He was apparently living with a Thai wife in Udon (Bandung).

Correct, almost. (the report, not the translation)

He served 3 years of a 7 year sentence in Oz for what was previously known there as "unlawful carnal knowledge" ie s-ex with someone under the legal age of consent.

He is being deported for illegally entering Thailand.

Perhaps you could inform us where you "heard" your information, coxo. And even more so, why you didn't pass it on the the local authorities.

As far as I know Jack is correct, most of us knew his past, which he didn't hide. Some of the speculation here is unfounded. He did have a Thai 'common law' wife but separated some time ago. He is/was still receiving his aged Australian Pension (into a Thai Bank), I'm not sure if a fugitive from Australian Justice is entitled to a pension so one would have to assume any intervention from the AFP would based on something he may have been doing via social media or the like and not officially charged with yet.

YES, he has been here for many years after crossing the river by long boat which I believe he fell out of (funny story).

I believe he has been fined a relatively small amount for illegal entry into the country and headed for deportation already.

Just for your information Ban Dung is 2nd to Udon Thani City in size and population within the province. AND there are a surprisingly large number of Farang within the Amphur. Most are European/Scandinavian not seen out and about as much as we from the UK/US and colonies.

The local officials have been trying for years to get "City" status for Ban Dung.

so most ex pats knew he was a convicted sex offender ? they knew he was here illegally ? really ? and no one ever thought of battering the ####. for him to actually sneak in the country meant he was either on parole or already banned from Thailand, and people knowing this actually sat and drank with him, socialized with him. I think maybe this group would need to be investigated too. there's not to many "lone wolves" when it comes to pedophiles . they seek out like minded perverts to help reinforce that what they do is normal.

I agree to a certain point.
But,I would never hesitate to "grass" anyone who was hurting children.
This messes with their bodies, but more importantly screws their heads up and makes it difficult for them to know right from wrong throughout the rest of their lives.
Every child deserves the right to a fair and loving upbringing.
After visiting Pattaya, and looking at some of the people walking around there, I believe that this behavior is possibly widespread from the Falang community, (and probably locals as well, but they have less education about it than us).
I went to Laos last year,and even felt more sick by the falangs that I saw over their.
Mind you, I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but when you get a gut feeling, it's almost always correct.

Agree..........too many knew his illegality of entry and past. WTF, that's embarrassing.

Sorry, I would of reported him immediately. Illegal entry, sorry, well no, I'm not, but I'm ratting your arse out. If you need to enter illegally, I don't want you here.

Victimless 'crime', probably give it a pass, but his past, far from victimless, whether consensual or not, and yes guessing, probably not the first time. Whether he was a good little boy here or not, as pointed out. Rarely cured of their lust for younins.

If I don't think he's safe around my daughter, I'd rat on him and be proud of it. Really not hard to live a straight and narrow life. So keep your secrets to yourself if around me. Because I'll F you in second.
