Fire in Kumphawapi

Post by samster » March 23, 2016, 8:33 am

There was a huge fire in Kumphawapi last night taking out a block in the town centre. I witnessed most of it and, my initial thoughts were that it could be even more serious given the buildings' construction and the nature of some of the shops (retail of gas cannisters etc). The fire brigade did a tremendous and professional job in containing the fire and should take great credit. Sadly, I believe that there has been loss of life.

I have it on (relatively) good authority that, unfortunately, there was at least one fatality Parrot. Thanks for the photo.

It was a block back from the monkey park so, no bbq monkey on a stick in the local market today

Fire in Kumphawapi

The latest says ไม่มีผู้ได้รับบาดเจ็บหรือเสียชีวิต no loss of life or injuries. But quite a fire just the same. Looks to be the old market area.

My source is sacked but, good news and quite amazing if no casualties given how quick it spread. Yes it's down towards where the old market used to be at the bottom of town.

Was reporting the fire through the night. Lots of Photos, video and comments.
More pictures today of the aftermath.

Google street view has good pictures of what it used to look like.

Fire in Kumphawapi

Post by samster » March 29, 2016, 8:11 pm

More excitement this evening when I got a call to say that there was another fire.

Got into town, which was largely in darkness with no electric and there were fire trucks and cherry pickers at the scene of the original fire.

Purely speculation but, it appeared that the overloaded electricity cables had had a fire as several had come down and were draped in the road. Everyone seemed to be looking and pointing at the wiring and he road was damp where the brigade had discharged their hoses - presumably after the electric was cut off!!!!

Seemed all over but guess the electric will be down there for a while. Good job we have a few lakes around here or Songkhran would be cancelled with all the scarce water being used to extinguish fires.

Three electricity poles set on fire this time. Luckily it was spotted before it had time to spread.
Good video of the event at https://www.facebook.com/Sanchaideecharoen?fref=nf
