renewal of 5 yr license..Where in Udon?someone said theres a place below AEK Udon..Someone else said only for Thai People.Where do I need to go and what docs please for renewal..many thanks in advance..Thomas

I renewed my 5 year license in the office below AEK. Come to think of it, I haven't gone to the main NonSung office for license or registration in 10 or more years.

I was referred to Nongsung, by the AEK office, for my 5 year renewal .

Got there, and skipped the tests , eye chart, and done and dusted in 30 mins

No tea money requested or offered

Renewed mine at AEK 2 weeks ago. Old license, passport, yellow book, approx., 600 baht. Movie 1030 and 1330 hours. Get new license after movie. Copy of passport and yellow book.

Did mine a week ago (from one year to 5 year), Basement of AEK, old licence, passport page copy (i did details page and visa page, not sure if they cared about visa); don't have yellow book so letter from immigration as proof of address (500 baht). Also letter from doctor saying i'm fit to drive (100 baht); licence cost about 650 baht. Didn't have to watch the movie; maybe too busy.

from one year to five year no watching movie.
from five year to another five year watching movie.
that's how it is.

I'm up for my 3rd, 5 year renewal but it will clash with a planned trip home. What is the renewal window? eg, 2 months prior --- 1 month after.

i was told that if you miss the date (expired licence) you'll have to apply for a new one > means back to zero....

According to the DLT website that's not correct

REMARK :
1) IN CASE OF DRIVING LICENCE EXPIRED MORE THAN 1 YEAR
- TAKE A THEORY TEST
2) IN CASE OF DRIVING LICENCE EXPIRED MORE THAN 3 YEARS
- TAKE A THEORY TEST AND PRACTICAL TEST

Well, the lady mentioned earlier has now got a license and the info she was given by Smart S.O.M was wrong. She did have to go back to zero. I was talking to her yesterday.

Yesterday (16th) at AEK about 11:30:
Expired February 11th 1year temporary car and MC licences

Needed:
passport ID page + 2 copies signed and phone number
Med cert + copy
Certificat of residence from immigration + copy

Received 2 5+year licenses
Total time taken about 10 minutes from walking in to leaving
No test or film

Note 2 licences so needed 2 sets, for the 2nd copies are OK.

Just returned from the AEK with my 3rd 5 year license. Arrived at 09:30, about 10 people waiting for the 10:00 AM opening. By 09:50 there were about 30 jostling for position at the door, great move bringing Mrs Dero as when the door did open we were 6th in the line, I was the only Farang.

Didn't want the 40 Baht Medical Cert and most other documents I supplied (required on my last renewal), just a copy of my Passport and Immigration letter. Quick look at the traffic lights (color blindness test) AND then one hour of TORTURE

. One Farang and 34 Thais subjected the most boring, repetitive, animated nonsense I have ever seen on a TV screen.

Anyway we were out of there by 11:30

Driving license renewal done today at AEK hossy transport office ...way better than going tot he HQ in Nong Soon .

My plan to go today whilst all the locals were gearing up for Songkhran paid off as the office was very quiet only a dozen or so there for the twice daily movie extravaganza .

I renewed my 5 year Car and Motorbike licenses ..
Docs required per license were
Copy passport photo page x 1
Yellow house book OR Immigration letter x 1 (one or the other)
Took Medical cert but not needed for renewal of 5 year license only first application ???

Total fee was 1,060 bt for both 5 year licenses ...and must say a lovely bunch of employees working there indeed.

Pretty painless ....... UNTIL it came to the TRAINING movie , no way out of this , no 100 bt under the table to skip it ..youve gotta watch it ..... 1 hour of animated fun with a few stills of smashed up cars n bikes for good measure , the vid covers most aspects of road safety but seemed to gloss over the following "grey areas".. BTW all the locals took the fulL hour to have a nap whilst i was riveted to the drama as it unfolded

Buffaloes on the road
Over loaded poorly lit Sugar cane trucks

NO COLOUR TEST MENTIONED timmy ...

I was totally un aware of your severe affliction to colours and their co ordination .......... but does answer a lot of questions posed when you have dropped by for a beer ....

blue n green should never be seen as my old gran used to say !!.
