Thomas Fuller, NYT correspondent, writes an interesting piece about his 'new' home in San Francisco. Some may remember him as the correspondent who was interviewing and only two feet away from Maj. Gen. Khattiya Sawatdiphol when the general was shot dead in the head.

Agree, a sad reflection on the US
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left

Well, that's what a consumer society is all about.

I think we, humanity, should strive for more than that. Stars, deep sea, I don't know. But not a Bluetooth-compatible toothbrush.
