A very interesting result indeed. We appear to be living in an era of anti-politics, the political class in a number of countries is not trusted much any more - BREXIT is a case in point. So, in a sense, with 'The Donald' it is a case of perfect timing for a non politician to make a bid for the top job.

DT also had a very powerful weapon in his armoury, he is a disruptor — an agent of change. In an age of Uber and the internet, voters believe change comes with certain agents. Trump looks like one of them. Hillary Clinton certainly does not - to many voters she represented, more of the same. Unfortunately for Mrs Clinton the electorate didn't fancy more of the same, instead they opted for change.

One can only hope the significance of the date of the result is not lost on the American people. As an Aussie who has deep respect for the USA/Australian alliance, l fervently hope that our alliance is not tested in meaningless international conflicts as a result of this election outcome.
