Post by Mudguard » January 29, 2019, 6:01 am

Hi one n all...Is there an Ozzie in Thailand who gets his pension sent in Baht from C/link?
If so, can u please let me know if it is better than getting Au dollars...
I get Au $s via my net banking....I want to compare the diff between both...cheers, Mudguard..

I don't know BUT if at present the money is deposited into your Aussie account, you can bet the bank ( whichever you use) will sink their greedy teeth into any conversion.
Just saying, it would not be C/link doing any conversion.

It's most unlikely that you would get a better rate by getting your Oz bank to send Baht rather than A$.

As an example at this mornings rates (all for TT), Westpac is selling Thai Baht for 21.32, and CBA for 21.11.

At this end, Kasikorn is buying A$ at 22.22, and Bangkok Bank at 22.3.

You do the maths.

Painful to have to settle for the 22 odd baht to the dollar.
I can remember getting around 32 back in 2008 I think it was.
Just have to grin and bear it, not much one can do about it.

Pensions are calculated into Thai baht at the official rate of that point in time of transfer.
Transfer is via Swift so Oz banks are not involved , what c/link pays is what is deposited in to your Thaibank A/c
I have 19years hassle free with this system.

Would you happen to have a c'link link to that...???

Edit:- only one I could find was reference to an application for "wire transfer"

and a note sayin " Please note that payments may be subject to fees levied by your bank, and such fees must be paid by you."
What ever that might be at Thai bank end I would imagine.

Apparently no direct deposit arrangement allowed for between Aus and Thai.

No, not wrong at all.

I did say "direct deposit" was not done between Aus and Thai banks as that is exactly as quoted . There is a list of countries that are accepted and Thailand is NOT one of them.

As I DID say if you read the reply I made, you are correct in saying "wire transfers" ARE acceptable. Apparently NOT the same thing and MAY attract a local charge by your Thai bank.

It is because of this "possible charge" that may end up costing the OP more than it is worth and that was my point.

You made a claim that you've done it for 19 years and I asked you for a link to this "no charge" arrangement but so far none forthcoming.
