In the NYT an opinion writer observes how "... the extraordinary developments of last week — actually, of the last months — reveal that Thailand is a military dictatorship like no other. It is a military dictatorship under royal command."

I guess those who show even a modicum of interest in Thai affairs will be "unsurprised" by this development.
An opposition political party that attempted to nominate a member of the royal family as prime minister in Thailand’s upcoming election has been dissolved with immediate effect and its executives given a 10-year ban from politics.

In a ruling announced on Thursday afternoon, Thailand’s constitutional court declared that Thai Raksa Chart, a political party formed only in October last year, had violated the constitution by putting forward Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi, the older sister of an individual, to be its chosen candidate for prime minister.

Hopefully, some semblance of democracy will still shine through in what is likely to be a very flawed election. :(

A novel concept but it will be difficult for democracy to take hold since the Senate will be full of military men.

I see the average Thai and a lot of them seem to manage well. They all have thiere new phones and cars. Remember we have foreigners in our governments and it's accepted... why should we bother if there are rich Chinese in the Thai government when there a Muslim and other foriegners in our own?
Teacher! Teacher! Can you tell me when Muslim became a nationality?

Meanwhile, back in fair Albion, "Are you a bishop, a bankrupt, a police officer, soldier, judge or civil servant? Sorry, you can't become an MP. Nor can children, or anyone who is not a citizen of Britain or the Republic of Ireland, or a Commonwealth citizen with indefinite leave to remain."

https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2009/may ... come-an-mp

Nae wurries Jimmy, despite your sh!te grades in geography and ignorance of British civil law and me not knowing you from Adam, I'll still sign your nomination papers. Just let uz know where you're pitching your tent, eh?

Any word on how the exit polls are looking.

Bangkok post seems to be offline so can't read the updates.

With polls closing in less than 10 minutes, PT have pissed allover the junta BTW and the Dems have placed third... where else do you out an ashtray on a motorbike? Future Forward are in 4th place with 75% of "precincts reporting" or whatever the local equivalent is.

Quelle surprise, non?

So Natas, beyond your confession to not having an opinion based on the thread subject matter being something that only the locals can participate in and the outcome really only affects the locals, why are you persisting in banging on about it?

Rhetorical question (you don't have to answer it).
