A Swiss man and his Thai wife pointed to a bedroom window used by burglars to gain entry to their house in the Ban Na Khlong housing estate in Udon Thani.

Hundreds of thousand of baht's worth of goods and cash were stolen in the burglary. Huay Luang police are investigating after they were called by Swiss national Manfred Raiser, 68 and his Thai wife Monthicha, 58. Two Swiss bought notebooks worth 35,000 baht each were taken from the bedroom.

Also missing was 115,000 baht's worth of Swiss francs and Euros and 10,000 baht in Thai money. In addition to this the burglars got a 50,000 baht diamond ring and two Swiss ladies' watches worth 17,000 and 25,000 baht respectively.

So do I.

It does seem a rather inordinate amount of loot though.

It not very wise advertising how much was taken in cash and small items. Apparently most burglaries last less than 15 minutes, with the Thief looking for exactly that which is expensive and easy to conceal - carry.

Telling them the values of cash ++ lying around inside the house, potentially attracts his brothers to try a second time :-s

Quite a few houses are burgled twice, usually within a one year time frame

That's the way Thai police do things, everything is rehashed and advertised.

And a nice air con unit to stand on whilst your forcing the window .
Loose lips sink ships ! I would imagine there must of been a bit of bragging about what they have , or at least flaunting what they have , and they paid the price .

 Ha, so we have experience do we? "a nice air con unit to stand on whilst your forcing the window".

Unfortunately Saint not too many of us Farangs think about how to prevent it, until it actually happens. As for leaving any valuables (cash and jewelry lying around the house (unsecured or easy to find) whist you are not there, well that is just asking for it. You may as well leave it out on the front porch and so save the cost of the broken window. :-$

My questions would be
1.Do they have a local maid that comes and helps clean the house
2.Who was the last family member to come visit recently? :-k :-k Most likely someone or a friend of someone who has been in the house recently
3.Who did they tell they were going on holidays (if that is where they were)

=;

Dogs are a deterrent but if they are serious at all they will just poison the dogs. The only theft I ever had at my house in Thailand was my trusted maid. She knew my habits and where everything was and what I had so it was easy for her. I could not believe she did it, she had been good for over 5 years.

Reminds me of a friend and his Thai wife who lost some things from their house. Some of her clothes and his liquidiser.
The wife went around to confront the maid.
She returned with all her clothes. When he asked about the liquidiser the wife explained that the maid needed to keep that to start a new business. TIT
