Children dieing in Thailand on teh Roads

Post by Doodoo » May 17, 2019, 9:22 am

17,634 children on average had died annually from road accidents between 2013 and 2017. That's over 48 a DAY

That's difficult to believe Hopefully that number will be decreased. How, once again the same solutions are available and only need to be acted on

Yes it would be a dumb comment, if they were all wearing helmets.....but alas the comment will probably stand.

Internal bickering here does not do anything to fix the problem - the fault lies directly on the shoulders of the parents passing down their bad habits to the kids and the BiB for NOT enforcing the laws of the land.

Hits home when a very good, Farang, friend lost a 13 and 14 yo Step nephew and niece a few weeks ago - T boned by a pick up, the boy was doing a STUPID U turn on the main highway a few kilometers from me. Their mother, who works down South, had only just bought the boy the motor bike. From what my friend was saying, at the funeral the devastated Mother just kept on wailing "I killed them, I killed them". I don't know what the grandmother is going through as she bought both of them up.

Enough said!

I assume when you (Bandung__Dero) say she bought them, him or her a BIKE we are talking a Motorbike. If so they would be underage to obtain a License to drive.

As you said "Enough said!"

If this is a push bike then I apologize for my statement

It is sad to see that high number of young ones loosing their life in traffic accidents, but after a few days here in Udon I am not so surprised though.

The amount of young poeple on those scooters everywhere, and watching how they drive and cut corners straight into oncoming traffic... I really dont understand how on earth alot of the people driving actually are allowed to drive (in my mind they are driving illegally, but to say that always enrages somebody)

That number is the number of deaths from people on/in 2 and 3 wheel vehicles per day not the number of child deaths. Still appallingly high but not as high as it first looked.

So it is difficult to believe because it is not true.

If the number were true then 72% of road deaths would be children.

I'm always disgusted with teachers at schools allowing under age children to ride out the gate with no helmets, that would be the place to start...

The statistics were from the article I read and reported on
If you wish to dispute please post your source I will go back and get mine

One must remember in the way statistics are notes While during Songkran and such I understand that these are individuals that die at the scene and not in the hospital
The statistics reported here could well be the total of children dying but I am not positive

Thanks

Regardless too many are dying

My source quotes "ROAD ACCIDENTS kill more than 17,000 children and teenagers in Thailand every year, the latest statistics show. And most of these fatalities involve motorcycles, Road Safety Policy Foundation’s manager Thanapong Jinwong said yesterday. "

So its each YEAR TOO MANY

The children and young people need to be taught by their parents, the parents need to be educated about safety and fined for not obeying the rules, the police need to enforce the laws, the government needs to care. None of this is happening.

Thanks for that I recently went through the same discussion with Teenagers here at the house regarding riding bikes and how to
I told them they would be on their own if disobeying the laws or safety measures So far they are complying But will see what happens

I know that that is what your source said and as I pointed out it is extremely unlikely that 72% of all road fatalities are children/teenagers.

If you look at the statistics the number is suspiciously close the total number of people killed on two and three wheel vehicles, 73%

I agree that the numbers are far too high but that number is very likely to be incorrect.
It is likely to be sloppy reporting or skewed information.

If the statistics were easily available it would be extremely surprising to find such a huge percentage of deaths in that age group.
Specially since a study in 2003 found that
Analysis reveals that 70% of the people injured or killed in traffic crashes are aged 10-39
Total deaths approximately 24,000
