If your happy living here where the Scams are worse and curruption is worse and the rock has been squeezed enough then fair play for you for sticking up for it. Never forget you are not wanted here and not made to feel welcome. I for one would rather spending my money where I'm appreciated and welcomed instead of getting ripped off daily or having to have a thai friend to buy things you want as you know you will be charged the farang price. So crack on having a go at me or simply don;t read my posts if it annoys you.
What your failing to grasp Vlad , with respect . Is many of us on this forum and others , have made ourselves a good life here , are happy , many of us married to honest Thai women , Yes, honest . If you get away from the pick up bar scene , then there are many out there .
Ive lived here for over a decade , and ive been ripped of all of 3 times , every one of them by government officials , and never by local traders . In fact just this week i had some work done on an old 4X4 i own at my local garage . All the brakes overhauled including 8 brake cylinder seal kits , new front bearings ,and rear suspension bushes changed . Total bill 4780 baht , was told just pay 4500 baht .
I dunno maybe i was scammed , :-k but tell me you would get that at Kwikfit , or Halfords .
My point is if you treat the locals with a little respect and friendlyness , in my experience the majority will treat you fairly .
You dont like Thailand , But many on here still do .
My point is , we have made a life here , except its not perfect , but still enjoy our retirement knowing that nowhere is perfect .
You come over for a holiday , splash a little cash and get the hump when you go home skint , then spend the rest of the year slagging off our home . =;

Just one of many indicators of a Countries worth (Below) the Social Progress Index (SPI). The SPI has 6 No Tiers

Thailand is in Tier 3 with a World Ranking of 70 and a score of 67.31 out of a possible 100
India is in Tier 4 with a Work Ranking of 100 and a score of 56.07 out of 100, some 30 spots below Thailand and with some real classy bottom of Tier 4, Friends/Countries (Refer Item 5 below)

But before we get to the SPI, let's look at some other indicators that define the Country (India) as a whole and in part the people that the TAT is hoping will save their Tourism Industry. The following is India's best endevors towards building a Society. :-k :-k , lets just hope that they dont spread their Vision. =; =;

1. Caste System: I just wonder how a Country 30 spots below another in Social progress is going to help that other country improve itself?  particularly when that Country (India) had for over 1,000 years (yes 100 years) and still maintains a Caste system today, one where the "Rich Indians" (the Saveers) openly discriminate against their own people, i.e. the lower caste people (such as Dalits - Untouchables). Some might wish to argue that India's government outlawed the Caste system/or made it illegal in India under Article 15 of its Constitution, in 2010, but in reality it still exists throughout India and is still openly practiced.

I don’t see any Dalits holding Government or Political positions, some 9 years after Article 15 was introduced. :-k :-k :-k :-k Must have been a simple oversight on the part of India's legal & political elite. Highly unlikely that you wll see any Dalits getting an exit visa at India's end to travel to Thailand. By the way, who do you think kept and keeps (i.e. still employs) the Dalits. despite the Law under Article 15, - the "Rich Indians".

2. Child Marriages: This is a Country (India) that still leads the world in forced/sold Child Marriages, notably many between the age of 15 – 19 years old and eve younger. Too hard to comprehend, but this link says it all.
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/phot ... a-culture/

I saw a BCC Programme on this one year back. Decided to just turn it off. I would have to think Thailand would want to learn anything from India on this subject. How do you think buys these Child Brides, the Dalits, I think not. More like the "Rich Indians" (the proclaimed Saveers of the Thailand Tourism Industry)

3. Child Bondage or Enslavement or Trafficing: Do your homework on this and the current ongoing practices in India. Two years back the number of Inidan Children reports to be in Bondage or Enslavement was in the region of Millions (and not just one Million). Just one Article on Indan Children in the Brick Kiln Indiustry. Who contrils this and who makes money from it, guess what, the "Rich Indians".

https://www.antislavery.org/report-slav ... ick-kilns/.

In July 2018 Reuters Reported that India is home to the largest number of slaves globally, with 8 million, followed by China (3.86 million), Pakistan (3.19 million), North Korea (2.64 million), and other ---- Holes?? How many of the 8 Million in Idia in Slavery were Children, well thats anybodies guess, but It would be more than one. Well done India.

This certainly is not Thai culture

4.Corruption: Then there is the “Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI)”. Whilst Denmark and New Zealand are perceived as the least corrupt countries in the world, ranking consistently high among international financial transparency, while the most perceived corrupt country in the world is Somalia, ranking at 9-10 out of 100 since 2017. Thailand Ranks 99 out of some 180 participants. Sh.....T, India Ranks 78. Maybe the Indian can help Thailand improve its Corruption Standing in the Works. I seriously doubt it

5a.Social Progress Index: The index combines three dimensions
Basic human needs
Foundations of well-being
Opportunity

The SPI has 6 No Tiers

5b.Extract: The Social Progress Index (SPI) measures the extent to which countries provide for the social and environmental needs of their citizens.

Fifty-four indicators in the areas of basic human needs, foundations of well-being, and opportunity to progress show the relative performance of nations. The SPI measures the well-being of a society by observing social and environmental outcomes directly rather than the economic factors. The social and environmental factors include wellness (including health, shelter and sanitation), equality, inclusion, sustainability and personal freedom and safety.

SPI 2018 Rankings

Tier 1
1 Norway 90.26
6 Japan 89.74
10 New Zealand 89.12

Tier 2
15 Australia 88.32
25 USA 84.78
36 Hungary 80.11
39 Latvia 79.25

Tier 3
46 Belarus 73.73
50 Malaysia 72.72
60 Russia 70.16
67 Sri Lanka 68.01
70 Thailand 67.31 \:D/
74 Algeria 66.83
76 Morocco 66.51

Tier 4
78 Kyrgyzstan 65.79
70 Bolivia 65.48
83 El Salvador 64.97 :-k
88 Iran 63.96 :-k
96 Guatemala 60.41 :-k
99 Honduras 58.06
100 India 56.07 [-X
103 Senegal 55.47
104 Timor Leste 55.11

Call the above Racist, if you are Naive, but it is not, these is Facts [-X =; =;

Now for all the Naive individuals out there, who have never been to India and never worked in a society littered by them and or their cultural thinking and their lack of humanity, start throwing your Rocks at me.

I seriously doubt whether the Indian society as a whole or in particular, the groups of Indian Males who wander the streets of Pattaya looking to touch up the women for free and who can’t get a s...gg back in India, could offer anything of value to the Thailand Tourism Industry (TAT).

Saint I don't go home "Skint " as you put it that way I get asked how was my holiday and I will tell them how it was bad or good points it's my opinion that Thailand has lost its charm ok from a tourist point of view but I'm no 2 week tourist with cash to burn. I'm not skating locals either I will post what's going on at the moment or the latest rule that extracts money out of your pocket. Who would have thought you would have to pay a tourist tax on entry. This is what I post about it but people are too quick to jump on the hate Thai and Thailand bandwagon. I know some people are finding it a struggle to live here on just a basic pension as for you to jump in LS what does Fricken mean ??

Vlad , I did not mean skint as in your pockets turned inside out , but you probably done your holiday budget .
I also know people retired here , who are now struggling , but its hardly Thailands fault .
Everyone i know who is in that situation is blaming the exchange rates of their respective country , with the U K citizens being hit especially hard because of the Brexit and political situation . Yes the Baht is too strong right now , and the Pound is far too weak , but its certainly not Thailands fault .

Will you agree that Thailand has problems with the tourism sector and has it been in decline for the last few years and to that point why do they feel the need for Indian tourists to fill the void left because of TAT allowing tourism to drop.. or why was it allowed to drop.

Yes i do , as it has many problems in other sectors . A lot of it is the strong Baht , exporters are also suffering , but i guarantee that some hiso and his or her buddies are making a fortune from it .
Vlad Thailand has many problems , as do almost every other country on earth , but as guests there is nothing we can do about it .
All those that say , well just leave . Like i said before we have made a life here , we have loved ones here , so what we give all that up because things have changed financially for us .
Things will swing back in our favour given time . So weve tighten our belts , battened down the hatches , weathered the storm and are just about to see a glimmer of sun on the horizen .
Whether the tourists return or not , is not really my problem .

Only if you are based in the UK Saint and you need a new or replacement urgently. Most UK passports are issued pretty quickly, it was only when they centralised everything in Liverpool a few years back that there were some teething problems with the Scally staff not wanting to work too hard. :D

From the Bangkok Post:

"The strong baht has taken a heavy toll on European tourist numbers in the resort city, according to the Entertainment & Tourism Association of Pattaya City. "Over the past few months, European travellers have hardly come to Pattaya at all because of the baht's appreciation," said Damrongkiat Phinitkarn, the association secretary ...

The number of Chinese tourists, he said, has also dropped markedly as a result of the boat tragedy in Phuket that claimed 47 Chinese lives in July last year. Amporn Kaewsang, one of the managers of The Stones House, an entertainment venue on Pattaya's Walking Street, said Indian tourists are replacing European travellers."

Have to agree, in addition to the above timings and fees, my wife obtained a new I.D. card at the Tessabahn (sp) office adjacent to the Passport Office, I hardly had time to sit down before she returned. Credit where credit is due.
