R.I.P. Colin of Nong Khai

Post by goodison » July 30, 2019, 6:56 am

Many of uz Old Timers may remember Colin, a Nong Khai resident, ex Glasgow Policeman and a regular visitor to Udon, esp. Chris' Place on a Saturday. I heard from a good source that unfortunately he has passed away, peacefully in his sleep. No funeral details are available at present. He has two sons over in Scotland who have been informed. His corner stool at the bar in Chris' Place will never be the same without his presence.Condolences to his family and friends. Gone but never forgotten.

A great afternoon indeed. Good craic, nice bbq snacks, history lessons and cold beer served copiously and promptly by mine host. A toast raised for Colin... and back into it again.

Lost Harbor
by Leslie Nelson Jennings

"There is a port of no return, where ships
May ride at anchor for a little space
And then, some starless night, the cable slips,
Leaving an eddy at the mooring place . . .
Gulls, veer no longer. Sailor, rest your oar.
No tangled wreckage will be washed ashore."

A big thanks to Mike and Chris for putting together a remembrance gathering for our dear friend Colin. It was good to see so many old friends together again. And a thank you to Oam for preparing the excellent food.

A fine send off indeed. Pleased to see so many regulars in attendance. Even managed a Skype link up to New Plymouth so that Deane could be a part of "the Wake" Well done to Chris, Mike and crew for putting on a splendid buffet, the wee Dot and Doris was the crowning glory. I'm sure the Big Man was smiling down on us all.
