New to Udon, have non o-a, want to get Thai savings account

Post by NokNok » August 19, 2019, 6:20 pm

I am in a hotel for a few weeks while I look for an apartment or house to rent.

I went to TMB today with GF who has account there, they said as a foreigner to open an account, I have to do it in Bangkok in the headquarters office.
I'm new to this but understand finding a bank that will let me open an account is a bit of a wild goose chase.

Which banks and locations should I try?

I'm hoping to build up the 800K in a thai bank in the next year or so. Am i going to be able to find any bank to do this while in a hotel, or will I need a lease and residency permit?

Siam Commercial Bank on Phosri Rd is also expat friendly. If you go in an just stand near the seating area, someone will come to assist you. Just say you want to open an account with 800k. Smooth as silk I'll guess. Remember, single owner only for immigration purposes.

A lot of people have also found Kasikorn to be accommodating.

Hint: If the first branch you try says no, just move on to the next branch, or bank.

Try KASIKORN Bank at Central Plaza.

You will need an Address and or Rental Agreement in place, plus copy of your Passport with Non IMM O-A visa.

On another note, as you are new to Udon Than, I presume you have done your TM 30 at the Udon Thani Immigration office, since arriving.

That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.

I went to Bangkok bank at Boonthavorn on the western side of ring road.
Open a "be 1st" account with debit card.
All international deposits will be marked as such for proof of sending funds to yourself from overseas.
If doing international transactions i use transferwise.
Banks will rape you on exchange rates and fees.
English speakers and is very easy.

Do not need to do a TM30 while staying at a hotel, should be done for you automatically after you have presented your passport to them (can always ask). If staying anywhere else, you will need to do one.

If having problem proving your address to a bank, immigration MIGHT help you with a letter (about 500 baht).

A friend of mine retired here and had that problem. I took him to an immigration office and explained the problem that he wanted to deposit 800,000 baht for a retirement visa. The immigration tore off a piece of scrap paper and wrote something in Thai and told my friend to give that note to the bank. He gave it to the bank official and fifteen minutes later he had a bank account and an ATM card.
