A Sign of the Times? Udon Immigration 90 day report.

Post by RLTrader » September 25, 2019, 8:32 am

Stopped by Udon Immigration yesterday (Tue, Sept 24) a little after 11AM, for 90 day report, Place was empty. No one else for 90 days, and one foreigner at the extension desk, and No One in the waiting queue. In & out in less than 5 mins.

A Sign of the Times, I will guess? Never have seen the place this empty.

After the girl in the middle was done processing our extensions, I asked her if things had slowed down this year. She said, not much, but she expected it to slow more next year. FWTW

That's a good point. Years ago, a friend of ours had to drive about 90km from SriBunReuang to Udon.......now a much shorter drive to NBLP. Loei, Sakhon Nakhon, Beung Kan, NBLP......none of those offices existed not so many years ago. Same same Makro, Tesco, Global.

Was there about 30 minutes ago to do the 90 day report. All of three minutes at most. No one ahead of me at the 90 day report desk and maybe two or three at the processing desks. No one in the "waiting" chairs.

Maybe - just maybe, with the financial imposition a large percentage of expats find em selves in these days (x-Rates, new regulations etc.) miss "Dodgy Visa Udon" is finding all the Extension and 90 Day reporting crossing her desk and going all points South with suitably filled brown envelopes!

.

I strolled in just before lunch today for the 90 Day report.

About 5 or 6 waiting in chairs for IOs.

Two ahead of me for 90 Day and 3 behind me. I ended up getting a 36 Day notice instead of 90 Days. The agent mistakenly gave me the same date as the guy in front of me. We laughed, we smiled, and then he gave me the correct date to appear.

However, the parking lot was deceiving. VERY full.

another 90 day report done, thinking last. Didn't give me 90 days, just to ext expire date.

Around 11AM and No one else at 90 day desk, and couple at other desk couple people waiting. Monday a slow blue day, I guess. 8)

Good day, Why are you thinking LAST ? What do you mean by << Didn't give me 90 days, just to ext expire date >>
Please shine some light on my ignorance.
Have a nice day.

Hmm, a tuff one :D Well went today and it expires end of Jan 2020, which seems to me to be about 30 days. She told me when/if I renew would need to come back and get a new one, I said, "Hmm, So I am not getting 90 days?" She smiled.
Why are you thinking LAST ?
Not sure at this time what I will be doing, but do know I don't have 800K in any Thai bank, and not planning.

That is standard practice in Udon, 90 days from your report date or your extension expiration date which ever is shorter.
It’s actually a benefit as you have to visit immigration fewer times.

It really has nothing to do with Udon Imm. Your 90 day check is only good as long as your extension. Likewise, your extension is only as good as your passport.

I must be very stupid. I thought that 90-day reporting and extension of stay were two different things.

They are but Udon immigration will make the 4th/5th 90 day reporting period shorter so it is due the same day as your extension.

No problem for a marriage extension but not so great for a retirement one.

I'm confused. For the past several years, when we do our extensions, our 90 day checkin is updated, whether it's needed or not. For example, one year, we did our extensions on 15 Sept, but our 90 day wasn't due until the end of Oct. The IO updated our 90 day on the same day as our extension.
Also, last year, after doing our extension in mid Sept (2018), we did all of our 90 day checks on line until we did our extension again in mid Sept 2019. So, at least in our case for 2018-2019, we only visited the office once. Unfortunately, my latest attempt to do our Dec 90 day online was unsuccessful.......but I gave up after only 2 attempts.

The website is known to be flaky so trying a few times separated by a day or 2 often works.
