A friend of mine got me started using a bread machine. He has been making his own bread for ten years with a bread machine. I wasn't sure and really didn't want to spend a lot of money so I bought a cheap one off Lazada. It is a Verasu Homemate. It does a great job. Dump the ingredients in the pan and hit start. Three hours later you have a great loaf of bread. Mine is a small one. It makes either a 500 gram or 750 gram loaf. I make bread maybe twice a week. I love the cinnamon raisin bread. So simple to make. The smell of baking bread is delightful. You get more than three 750 gram loaves from a 30 baht a kilo bag of all purpose flour. Mine came with recipes in grams so I bought an electronic kitchen scale.
It takes 300 grams of all purpose flour for a 750 gram loaf of white bread. If you use whole wheat flour, it won't rise properly and you will have a very heavy loaf. (my dogs like it) You can get by using one third whole wheat flour. The recipes calls for rice bran oil. Any cooking oil works fine. I used olive oil until I ran out.

making bread is all about good recipe , and patience ...to make your dough rise enough , whole wheat flour is best used 10-30% of the weight of the bread flour , other wise it will be a rock good to feed the dogs , i prefer a good dough mixer to a bread machine that is useful for the inexperienced bread bakers ...

Wow Kopkei! Nice bread, I'm making do with the loaves out of Tesco, I'm not sure I'd have the patience to make my own.
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

A lazy retired guy like me also has little patience. That's why I use use a bread machine. As lazy as I am, the little machine takes all the work out of it. Tomorrow I'll make a loaf of cinnamon raisin bread. If I had to make the dough by hand and bake it in the oven I wouldn't bother baking bread.

I have a confession to make. I started out using only bread flour. I ran out of bread flour and asked my wife to buy a couple kilos of bread-flour. She came home with all purpose flour. I went ahead and tried the all purpose flour and surprisingly I couldn't tell any difference. I had been paying 80 baht per kilo for the bread flour at the bakery supply. The all purpose flour cost 30 baht per kilo. I haven't bought bread flour since.

I have to say that really enjoy my bread machine.
Just one thing, the basket has an anti-stick layer, and that is wearing out.
Baskets do nor seem to be for sale separately, so I am afraid that I will have to buy a new machine only for the basket.
My machine is a Morries, by the way.

As for yeast, going out of Udon direction Sakon Nakhon, before the fly-over at the ring road, on the left hand site, there is a Chinese shop, with all bakery necessities , the shop is in yellow, green and orange, and there is a parking in front.
( I passed it it many times before I finally spotted it..)
They have several kinds of yeast and whatever you may need.
Good prices too.
They have bread improver as well.

I bought my yeast off Lazada. The package was 500 grams. I think I paid about 150 baht for the package. Since each loaf takes about 5 grams, its certainly not an expensive item. I have an extra 500 grams in the freezer. The pros say it will last for years if you keep it frozen.

My cinnamon raisin loaf came out perfect as expected. I put an egg in this loaf. I did notice that the dough looked pretty sticky which the pan bakers wouldn't like, but it still came out perfect in the machine.

Lazada is more expensive than the Chinese joint.
If it looks good..and smells good..go for it..
