Plenty of criticism of the Swedish model, forcing the government to act after a disastrous death toll became unacceptable.

I had a bumper sticker in Texas that read 'Beam me up Scotty'. I often wish I could find one in Udon Thani

Wonder how long it will be before the "senior figure" in the foreign office is told to shut up and tell the same lies the govt has been telling about the EU PPE & Vent procurement.
Hancock conveniently forgot the first distribution from EU before saying we had signed up (for the second lot) which had not been delivered yet.
well well boys n girls a letter from the FO nobody could have expected that could we
Unfortunately, I found myself in the lamentable position of having told the truth, a mistake which, I am sure you can understand, is of the most serious nature and for which I can only most profoundly apologise.

not exactly a shock tinpeeba, as you will see my post was made over 2 hrs BEFORE the letter was sent.
Weeks ago (on Udonmap) I was informed that it was just the fact that "remoaners" were making it up when we (and everyone with their eyes open) could clearly see that the govt made the decision so as not to look as if they needed help from EU only a few weeks after Brexit, even though we were still able to take part. Now their Brexit stupidity has started to cost lives a full 12 months earlier than predicted.
PS It is at least refreshing to hear members of this govt. now calling for closer ties with our EU cousins in the future

Re: U.K. going on lockdown, USA stopping restricting movement. WTF
Messaging with a past Aussie work colleague who is currently on the rail project in the Birmingham office.
She has been in lockdown for 6 weeks working from home.
Can this be true.
She advises that a 12,000 bed mortuary is being built at the Birmingham airport.
Local markets are 1 in 1 out for customers. Lines/ squares painted on the floor. Only 1 person to a square. One way people traffic.

She must have quoted wrong. Maybe meant has been built.
I’ll send her a message to get it right next time. A wasted law degree for her.
Still a lot of beds though. Hopefully they remained empty.

Rumours circulating that Matt Hancock is gonna get thrown under the bus to try and save Boris Brexit ar*se
Re: U.K. going on lockdown, USA stopping restricting movement. WTF
Assume you mean Birmingham UK Barney.
They have converted a few facilities into temporary hospitals including my local convention centre. I have heard that they are under utilised as there are nowhere near the numbers being anticipated.
Shopping in the UK is as you state with lines/arrows on the floors of supermarkets and monitored entry to regulate numbers. Smaller shops limit entry to one or two customers with queues forming outside.
The measures are working but, were brought in too late which, in my humble opinion was a pre-meditated and deliberate action by government.
I hope Thailand maintains the current rigid restrictions even longer as any relaxation would be detrimental as Singapore are finding.
Personally though, it would screw my chances of coming home any time soon so a double edged sword.

Re: U.K. going on lockdown, USA stopping restricting movement. WTF
Have read reports that most ventilated corona virus patients die ( between 80 and 90%)
Is this because put on to late or the fact they would just die anyway
Also the ones that survive still very ill in different ways

If you watch the video on the "Dr Erickson Covid 19" thread, those doctors say that in any situation, if a patient needs a ventilator, then that's probably near the end anyway.
This makes your statement relevant

Pretty much as noosard comments ... It was previously said in a UK press release at the time when ventilators were in short supply that in a high number of cases a ventilator prolongs life for a short period before death , in a few cases it does enough for the patient to survive but will have future continuing health issues from this virus... even less patients that have been on a ventilator survive and make a 100% total recovery.

Re: U.K. going on lockdown, USA stopping restricting movement. WTF
nice to see the UK govt repatriate about 9000 "British citizens" from Pakistan in the next day or two.
They will of course need to pass through the UK airport with no screening and go to their homes to "self isolate" for 7 days (with the other 26 members of their family living in the same house)
Note:- recorded cases in Pakistan have more than doubled in the last 7 days
Note:- Pakistan is just about the only country to allow its mosques to be open during Ramadan
Note:- despite the increase in covid 19 cases/deaths, it is so desperate to get Chinese money it has just re opened all major joint Chinese/Pakistani infrastructure projects
What could possibly go wrong?
