Technical Correctness

Post by Bandung_Dero » May 9, 2020, 4:27 pm

In a recent post I made a statement which now bothers me:-
If I ask someone to turn an air conditioner down do they set it from say 25 deg c to 23 deg thinking that is a lower figure - OR - set it to 27 assuming I want the unit to use less energy, reduce work load.
OK, I could be more specific with my request but it was what it was!

Edit: Let the debate begin using this and other conundrums!

first reaction would be to turn it to 27C unless I was feeling hot, in which case I'd turn it to 23C and wait for you to complain if that wasn't what you meant

In a case as serious as this ive found its best to do it oneself .. to avoid the wrong outcome.

If you said , just turn it down, it should get the response, temperature or fan speed, kindly clarify, otherwise you cannot in reality complain whatever they do.

Huh? Udon Map's been shut down today for hours? We had some server problems yesterday which were remedied; but I see nothing in today's logs.

It depends on the setting...if you select "heat" on reverse cycle, then down is less than
if you select "cool" on normal cycle, then down is greater than.

if that person you asked was Thai then they probably did right.. Up is down, and down is up you know, and On is Off, and off is on, compared to my land over the horizon..

In my air conditioning land, turning it up or down always related to the fan speed. When it came to temps, always used the actual temp or desired effect, ie. "set it to 23" or "switch it to cooler."

As DM says, do it yourself, I hate having to discuss the most minor point of any change in living conditions with my first wife. I read on the remote control, do I want it cooler, or hotter, and press the appropriate button, job sorted.

I agree. Doing it yourself eliminates all confusion and you have what you want..

Look at yesterdays (9th) posts, no activity until just before 15:00 -- in the popular topics, says something. I could not get access to the site!

I recall being able to log in and browse but there was nothing posted by anyone worth annoying except saint, Vince, DM, RLTrader, statto, jacksprat, etc..

Maybe one of us has the dates wrong. There was a server problem, I thought it was on the 8th, but you may be right. Anyway, it took a few hours for our hosting company to get it fixed.
