I'm staying away from the Astra-Zeneca, only because of its reported lowered effectiveness against the South Africa variant of the virus. Pfizer for me.

Vlad your post smacks of a hint of gloating ...

Time will tell how things pan out ref expats obtaining a covid vaccine vaccination here in Thailand ,, the price and origin of the vaccine is far out weighed by the fact i am very thankful living here in a country that having closed it borders immediately soon after discovering the first case on their soil in Jan 2020 has handled this crisis so well , its pretty obvious if only the UK had done the same things would have been a whole lot better there .. i spoke to my daughter last night as a former friend of mine had passed away (not of covid) and very sadly only allowed a handful of close family to attend his funeral , this has destroyed many lives and could / should have been handled better being an island the UK government should have closed its borders , ports and airlines .. but alas no still thousands can arrive into the country up until very recently ... this along with numerous other glaring mistakes and rules that just didnt make sense.

So im fine with waiting my turn in a relatively safe environment for my vaccine wherever it comes from and at cheap or expensive price is IMO not an issue.

There's little point blaming the way it has been handed, that wont help whats done is done. What is important is to vaccinate everyone and stop this virus and its mutations. History cannot be altered but the future can be.

"The FDA has approved or registered Sinovac's COVID-19 vaccine for conditional emergency use, effective Feb. 22," FDA deputy secretary-general Surachok Tangwiwat said, adding it was valid for one year.

I agree with DM, but with this rider ...IF and it is a big IF, we as expats are going to be billed, then I am sure that I will also be allowed to choose which vaccine, if free, anything goes .

YES EVERYONE .. even if they have to wait and make do with a sub standard non British vaccine.. [-X

The historians will note how poorly the covid pandemic was and is being handled in the UK as will the opposition political parties for years to come .. it wont be swept under the carpet just because they were the first to come up with a vaccine .. TO WHICH I OFFER PRAISE to those who did so,

Inturn i offer praise to the Thai response to covid in closing its air n land borders so swiftly after discovering the first case in Jan 2020 and keeping Thailand relatively safe with reference to covid in very difficult un chartered times..

Pfizer Has a reduction in hospitalisation of 84% in the 4th week
Oxford Astra-Zeneca Has a reduction in hospitalisation of 94% in the 4th week

Both have a small reduction in efficacy against the B.1.1.7 there is not enough data about the B.1.351 variant as the 200 person test reporting from South Africa is inconclusive as the age of the participants was quite young

More tosh

IMO the Thai authorities have handled the covid pandemic very well , acting swiftly from the onset and their track n trace system has very positive results ... the recent second wave has been contained very well with no massive outbreaks away from where it started (except Rayong) ...btw .. Bkk restrictions easing from 1st March but no lock down at all even since the New Year and second wave out break in Samut Sakorn seafood market.

Check the numbers and compare vlad

Here you go again more negative derogatory remarks .. ""begging bowl to the temple"" jibe its like your pleased about it and thinking everyone here is potless and needs help , simply isnt true , no 365 day per year dole benefit handouts but the population seem to manage and get by on the temp emergency covid subsidies on essential foods etc ..

of course the economy has suffered its tourist based .. what else did you expect.

The bkk demos are about so many different issues none of which IMO require any comment on an open forum.

Well said Jon. I could not agree more. When you compare Thailand with more “civilized” countries during Covid here is much better.

AS far as IO a mere human being originally from England, the biggest problem with Covid has been the Population , deciding which rules to obey which ones to ignore and then have the temerity to question the science and the facts it produces.
There comes a time WHEN we must all have some faith in the Scientists and then the Politicians to create Rules and Plans to enable us ALL to survive.
Thailand ion my book has done the best it can BUT if you notice here, you do not get anyone of note really offering contrary opinions and the PUBLIC follow the rules as do the shops etc.
We all have the ability to make our own choices based on the information given or available, what is apparent to me is that some believe everything available and some actually USE COMMON-SENSE . To those people I raise my hat as thinking ( a skill not used by many ) is a requirement of survival.
