But they choose not to see that. Based on the research Ml. Manich Jumsai History of Thailand and Cambodia. a Thia historian all the region past China to the sea was at one time Thialand. His is a very interesting read as his research is based on research from documents of time.

However even getting a Thai professor to address that aspect of thier history would be next to impossible. They ses as they wish to see it. For that reason alone you may be very correct.
:) Besides the pride involved regarding an individual(a remarkable example of goodness),hanging on to this false history is the cornerstone to their nationalistic pride!Imagine what would happen to teachers or politicians that proclaimed accurate history to the Thais!

Don't run off Ray.

Here is the link to the place in Mexico. Looked at their houses and they run from 50k to 1.2 mil US.

Stick with my rent here in Thailand.

:) Overall I think that Thailand is ''falang friendly''.Can't think of many resonable changes that would make it more friendly.
:) I think that if they allowed ownership of land for personal use,it would provide more security for us.

How about a real retirement visa?

It's funny I don't worry about the land issues as I have been through a divorce where I got the property anyway

Did anyone come to a conclusion with this debate?

I thought it was about whether retiring to Thailand would become more user friendly? was there a conclusion?

I see Mexico got discussed, along with Eastern Europe, Phillipines, Malaysia, Equador and Cambodia!

Get em Willyboy get it back on track, heck no body wanted to play to restictive I suppose. Interesting timing with all the visa activity going on.

Wonder if this will mean more thightening for retirees or things relaxing a bit down line, what do you think?

My guess things will be tighter for a few years and then relax again.

But the ultimate question in my mind was if they will eventually go to a true retirement visa, I was hoping but things are not pointing that way at the moment, are they

There still is the residency permit closer to actually being able to live here, without as many restrictions and a longer period of time.

  I still think ''debate'' is the wrong label. We only have our views and opinions to share from our experience and that of others hearsay. Therefore the conclusions are when nobody posts on the topic anymore, leaving you to reach the conclusion
 Our expert in the debating arena has taken a leave of absence, but the consenus is that it will be only temporary and he will be back soon.He waiting for a more subservient attitude amongst his subjects

No not me, I try to stay away from that. so this was as close a I can get. But Brian did bring up something that would be interesting to know about the cost of living and the living conditions in Eastern Europe I don't think I could handle the winters, but it looks like there might be some beautiful areas there.

Anyone spend any time there?

So you great debateres out there have at it.

For me I will be very interested in seeing your views on this subject. I won't participate, never go to knife fight without a gun,
I won't participate,

Well, I do hope so, because to me your debate, discussion whatever label you want to give it, was something of a ramble in the country and you seemed to have gotten lost a few times on the way. :?

In fact judging by the last post about living conditions in Eastern Europe, you're still not back yet!!
A reminder
Topic - Will Thialand law become more user friendly for retirees.
I saw no real evidence of you staying on the topic, no logical or structured arguments presented, - just hearsay, AND NO conclusions drawn. :?

Come on now, get it together guys!!!

Anyways good luck in Eastern Europe, or is it Mexico?

Ok guys, can we please calm down a little and not get personal. This forum is supposed to be a friendly place for people to share opinions, seek advice and learn about the area. I have been lenient up until this point due to the fact that all those involved seemed to be enjoying themselves, but I really feel it has gone over the top now.
Can we please respect all users and follow the forum rules as listed below:

4. You will respect the rights of other users to have their own opinions.

Many thanks for your cooperation.
