I done the ‘Anniversary Update’ three days ago and have my operating system on a SSD with games and data stored on a HDD. I am not experiencing any problems... The new version seems to run very smooth...

After the Anniversary update I found that my PC had become remarkably slower. I checked in the Task Manager and saw that 2 Rundll.exe processes (Windows host processes) were constantly eating up 99% of my CPU's power. No use stopping them. They just start again. Any suggestions?
I hope I die in my sleep like my grand dad did, not screaming like his passengers

done the anniversary update on a notebook and a desktop computer. no problems so far.
it's actually more than an update, because it leaves a massiv windows.old directory on the hdd.
and it deletes the whole windows-update history.
so to me this looks like a complete exchange of windows 10......

You might want to look at this Balthasar.
http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/u ... 32exe.html

It looks like it is a Windows program used to run processes. It would seem that the processes it is trying to run are using up all the CPU. I gather that could be genuine (like a bad 3rd. party driver) but it could also be malicious (i.e. malware).
As it has started to happen after the Windows upgrade it is probable that it is not malicious but a driver (for example) that needs updating or re-downloading.

If you get nowhere with the dummies thing then is is advice going back a couple of years on how to fix rundll32.exe issues in Win. 8. Not sure how relevant it is now, but nothing more current seems to be out there..
Method 1:
Let's boot the computer to Safe Mode to check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode then you may try set the computer in Clean Boot state to find which startup item or service is causing the issue.

Step 1: Boot the computer to safe mode.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/hel ... -safe-mode

Step 2:
If the issue do not occur in Safe Mode perform a clean boot and check.

Setting the system in a clean boot state will help to identify if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/929135

Note:

After clean boot troubleshooting steps return your computer to Normal startup mode.
To return your computer to a Normal startup mode, follow these steps:

Click Start in the Start Search box.
Type msconfig, and then press ENTER. ...
On the General tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services, and then click OK.
When you are prompted, click Restart.
Running Malwarebytes (free version) would be my first thing to do though...

Don't click the light blue "Pay" click the almost invisible "Free Download" to the left of that!!! :D

Can anyone advise me how to recover the desktop icons which I seem to have lost from my Windows 10 desktop. They are still listed on the computer, but I seem to have inadvertently cleared everything from the desktop, apart from the background screen saver picture.

Thanks Bob. I've done that, but it doesn't work. When I go to the desktop, it's still blank apart from the background photo and a couple of oversize tiles.

I note along the bottom menu bar, it shows "Links" and "Desktop", which weren't shown previously. The Desktop mini-menu arising from that does expand to list all the things which (I lost) were previously displayed on the desktop.

Also, I note I've lost the minimise - and full page options at the top right of Firefox browser. Only the X option shows.

I'm not surprised that you are having icon issues RJ.
To be honest Windows 10 from Microsoft is really driven by their Tiles approach. The old style icons are something they felt that had to re-introduce due to complaints about the way Windows 8 looked & acted.
It was a bit of a half-hearted effort though & I think that it is still designed to push people towards using their Tiles approach.
If you don't want to do that then I would recommend that you strongly consider using the Classic Shell approach.

As far as Firefox goes then...
either your copy has become corrupted & you should download another copy
or
the latest changes made by Windows 10 are not, currently, compatible with your version of Firefox & you will probably have to wait for a Windows update, or, more likely, a Firefox update in order to fix it..

You could try this though....

I did the Anniversary update, froze the Computor so switched off and it reverted back to the original Windows Ten, when ask M/soft for the reasons they gave me massive amounts of information none of which applied.

I posted this before but for some reason did not show up

Why not simply restore from an earlier restore point?

If you do not know how simply Google "Windows 10 restore"

For anyone interested, I have found the answer to this and at last resolved the situation.

Noting that the issue was on my laptop, - I had somehow accidentally configured/selected the "tablet mode" from some options under "settings" at the bottom right corner of the desktop. Deselecting the "tablet mode" put all my desktop icons back on the desktop and gave me back the minimise & maximise options at the top of Firefox browser. :D A man in a local computer shop resolved it for me.
