You don't have to wait. You can get it now, either through Windows update:

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/windo ... p-3620167/

or by downloading from Microsoft direct:

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/windo ... e-3575135/

I have used both methods, and found the second one a fair bit quicker.

Windows 10 downloaded and installed successfully. Thanks Jack. It is similar enough to Windows 7 that I am able to use it right out of the box. That said, I'm not sure that I like all the extra junk. I had hoped it would be lighter and faster. It seems to be neither.

After you have pruned all the unnecessary rubbish automatically loaded, then it is quicker, it takes time to navigate around all the bits but eventually it will be faster.

I have no idea what happened but my computer was VERY slow to boot and after an update it wouldn't reboot. It had to be shut down and restarted. Now it seems to start OK but then it goes to a black screen and no way can I get it to start properly. I have an extra hard drive with Windows 7 Ultimate. It works properly. That's what I am using now.

Sounds like a video card or monitor driver issue galt.

I would suggest that you see what card & monitor you have & then Google it with a reference to Windows 10 drivers & see what that comes up with.
Not an easy problem for you to fix though...

Fix for windows 10 booting to a black screen

Okay if you have just upgraded to windows 10 and are sitting at a black screen for way too long here's the problem and how to fix it.

If you have an on board Intel graphics controller as well as an add on graphics card, windows thinks you have one more monitor connected than you actually have. so when windows loads its outputting the video signal to a bogus monitor.

How to fix this
firstly wait long enough so the mouse cursor to appear when you move the mouse.
(blank screen with a white mouse cursor)

Then press the space-bar and enter your login password or pin (yes your doing this blind)

You should now be logged into windows
if the desktop dose not appear after 30 seconds then press WindowsKey-P down arrow twice and enter.

I hope this helps
Or maybe this..

But I suspect that you will get a better solution if you Google with the actual name of the video card that you are using..

very slow boot is a common issue with windows 10.
the cause is a graphic card / chip which is not yet fully supported by windows 10.
if you google the problem then you'll find out that many people are having this problem with their computers

my acer aspire 7736z notebook needs app. 2 minutes to boot to windows 10.
if you like, you can measure the boot time with this freeware > Bootracer.

until this issue is solved by the different manufacturers, i suggest to bypass the windows-logon-password automatically if no critical data is on the computer. like this you can let it boot all by itself and enjoy a hot coffee in the meantime.

Thanks for the help guys. Nothing worked and control, alt, delete is useless because the screen doesn't show. As of now I have had a belly full of Windows 10. I was able to format that hard drive and it now has the super crappy Windows 8.1 installed. Eventually I suppose they will eventually eliminate the bugs and I will find a copy on a DVD and try it again.

My computer is a Dell Precision, not a cheap machine. I suspect that the Windows 10 installation somehow deleted some of the Dell drivers. Windows 8.1 installed without any problems so that tells me the problem is indeed in Windows 10.

A few days ago I got tired of Windows 10 trying to automatically download. I finally decided to allow it. I'm VERY happy to say that it went well and Windows 10 is working well. I have no idea what caused the problem the first try but this time it apparently worked as designed. I really had no problem with the change and found it similar enough to Windows 7 that it was pretty instinctive. I even went so far as to remove the "old windows" file from the hard disk.

I bought a new laptop in UK a few months back and it came with Windows 8.1. I then subsequently downloaded a free upgrade to Windows 10.

I have noticed that with Windows 10 there is no option to agree the downloading and installation of updates. They download & install automatically and then a pop up requests permission for a restart. I'm not so happy about that. (With the old Windows 7, I used to be able to look at and agree, or otherwise, both the downloading and installation of Windows updates.)

I have Windows 10 & sometimes still get the blank screen if I have not checked for Driver updates.
I have installed Driver Booster which is a IOBIT programme.
I do a check for driver updates & this seems to solve the problem.
I use the free programme or you can pay & get the professional programme.

I noted that Edge was miserably slow as compared to IE (which wasn't noted for being a speedy browser!). There are various settings you can change to prevent unwanted ads and other issues which slow page loading with Edge.. Go to START, SETTINGS, PRIVACY and work your way through all the setting (clicking down each topic in the left pane) and shut off anything you don't want.. In the GENERAL Privacy Tab, there is a weblink to Microsoft.. Go there and shut off "Personalized Ads in this Browser"..

I think the iObit System Care Pro is a good program. I have used it in the past and they offered me the program for $14.95 plus another $9.99 for the driver update pro. It is compatible with Windows 10. It downloaded about 8 outdated drivers and all is working well. I played with Edge but am using Chrome. Firefox also works fine but I stuck with Chrome for the default browser.

For the past 3 or so years, I've relied solely on Microsoft Essentials/Windows Defender to keep the terrorists from invading my computer. Either I've been lucky, or I don't search enough porn sites, or Microsoft is doing a good job at keeping me safe.

Have booked my next trip to Udon. However when I try to print the Itinerary out the full page does not show including the print button at the bottom. Try using the cursor to move the page up and it disappears down and can't be seen. Tried Googling the problem and it seems the rest of the world are having the same problem. Not liking this latest crap !!!!
