Officially starts 13th April, tho that is a Monday this year so may start over the weekend prior.
How long does it go on for? again officially should end 15th April but usually goes on for a little while longer and generally for far too long!

Excellent for the children, experienced it as fun for 2 years now prefer to stay safe at home, too many idiots drunk driving etc.

13th - 15th April
Stops at 7pm each night, supposedly.
Added bonus of the following weekend full on in Pattaya for those who just can't get enough.

It's the one and only time I believe there may be a god as there is no logical explanation as to how the hell there aren't more deaths and injuries.

Loved it 1st time on Phuket, enjoyed 2nd time in Chiang Mai and now it's ok with the kids in the village but avoid the city and main roads like the plague

Just to give a realistic range, locals who work outside of Udon will start filtering into town noticeably, as early as Wednesday April 8th, then that weekend it will just kick into gear as far as partying goes. Cops will be looking to cash in beforehand so a few more "no helmet traps" per day than usual.

Figure the whole week of the Monday 13th - till the next Monday will be non-stop because people will simply not feel like drifting back to word on Weds 15th, Thurs 16th, Fri 17th, -so count on it actually being Wednesday April 22 before things get to "normal" around here.

By normal I mean, that's when your water supplier will show up, cooking gas canister delivery guys might be around, trash will start to get collected per normal, little motorbike repair shops will start to be open, might even be able to get hold of an aircon repair guy, etc.

Nong Khai is even crazier. The main street turns into one giant party.
