Today (USA) is National Fried Rice Day
History
Fried rice appeared in China as early as 510-620 AD. This cooking method was borrowed from Malaysia or Indonesia – in these countries, fried rice is a national dish.
The celebration of National Fried Rice Day only began in 2018, when the first Japanese restaurant in the United States, Benihana, offered to celebrate this day to enjoy their favorite dish. Later, fried rice was served in ordinary American restaurants – the dish was supplemented with various ingredients, depending on the desires of the cook.
Fried rice has millions of fans around the world. This dish is made and eaten with pleasure, both in Asia and the USA, Europe, and Latin America. Its main feature is variability. You can use any meat, different types of rice and many vegetables. Each person can create a dish according to their taste.
Interesting facts
In Japan and China, rice is associated with wealth. For this reason, it is thrown at the newlyweds at a wedding.
About 7 tons of rice are consumed every year in the world.
Rice is the staple food for about half of the world’s population.

Miniature Golf Day
History
The origin of mini-golf is not known for certain, but it is believed it is associated with the development of feminist movements. In Victorian Scotland, women weren’t allowed to play regular golf. Some got angry, and the St. Andrews Women’s Putting Club came up with a game that every woman could play without fear. In America, mini-golf appeared only in the second half of the 19th century, since then its popularity has been growing rapidly.
Interesting Facts
Initially, mini-golf was available only at luxury hotels and closed, private resorts.
The first course for this game appeared only in 1916 and was opened by James Barber.
The classic mini-golf course is shorter than the standard one and has many obstacles.
Originally, golf balls were made of hardwoods.
Golf is a great calorie burner.

I totally agree with that "up to you" justification. A citation, when included, allows any member with further interest in the subject a quick link to this pursuit. Although not mandatory, citations are considered good forum etiquette but then again, some people do eat with their hands and don't use utensils.Doodoo wrote: ↑September 21, 2023, 11:56 am"The question was directed to Doodoo. I recall that the 'big forum' still invokes their 'fair use' rule where a citation and a few salient sentences from the linked article is permitted whereas a copy/paste of the entire cited article is usually deleted by a moderator.

National Ice Cream Cone Day
Something we have all had and enjoyed
From the dawn of time, everyone from philosophers to the the man or woman on the street has scratched their confused heads over this mind-boggling question — how can you hold and eat ice cream in your hands without making a mess? This September 22, celebrate the long-awaited answer — National Ice Cream Cone Day — by taking a bite into America’s favorite way to eat a cool, sweet treat!
Before the invention of the ice cream cone, there was no good solution to the hassle (not to mention the mess) of eating an ice cream without dripping the stuff down your arms or down your chin and ruining your clothes. But thanks to this so-simple-it’s-incredible-nobody-thought-of-it-earlier innovation, now we’re free to indulge ice cream cones in waffle-style, pretzel, chocolate-coated, wafer, sugar and more. So, feel free to enjoy these waning hot days by getting your favorite cone (ours is sugar!) and celebrate National Ice Cream Cone Day.
